Fasttrack Motorcycles Ltd are now offering a lifetime warranty with all their used bike sales! Yes you read that correctly, a lifetime warranty on used motorcycles.

The fact of the matter is that before we sell a motorcycle to you the bike and engine will already have completed a full 100+ point inspection by our fully trained mechanics as well as a service – if the service schedule is not up to date – and a last minute PDI and road test so we’re quietly confident that you will have no problems with it at all. But unfortunately the unexpected does happen and what we’re effectively doing is offering insurance against it. So in the unlikely event that it does all go a little pear-shaped and your motorcycle breaks down we’re prepared to put it all right again and at no cost to you.

So what’s the catch I hear you all cry. Well there really isn’t one. All you have to do is have your bike serviced with us at our recommended intervals and make sure any necessary maintenance such as replacing your chain and sprockets, break pads or other worn items is completed and we will do the rest. No cost, no fuss.

Oh and if that wasn’t enough we’re offering to sell the same warranty to anyone at all, whether you bought the bike somewhere else or have had it since it was new, even if was donated by your grandfather. All you have to do is book it in for a full service with us (or major service but only if scheduled by manufacturer), bring everything up to specification and we’ll take care of it from there!

One thing to note just before I sign off. We are offering a parts and labour lifetime warranty against mechanical or electrical failure on any used motorcycle which is being used for day to day use on the public highway. We will not cover accidental damage of any kind nor damage caused by racing, wheelies or foolish things like letting your two-stroke oil run out and running the engine until it seizes. If you have an accident and the bike sustains damage you will need to bring it to us for an inspection and pay for any necessary repairs which may affect this warranty – don’t worry, we don’t consider purely cosmetic damage as ‘necessary’ – or the warranty will be considered void.

For further information on this warranty and servicing contact Nat at the shop.

Right I know this is a blog not a forum but I thought I’d start some conversation going… The best bike I have owned so far… without doubt the Triumph Sprint ST 1050. Why I hear you ask….? Well it’s a true 160mph torque beast that does the same job with three cylinders that most other makes just about do with four. It’s not a racer, so don’t give me all the chat about CBR1000rr etc. You can’t even give me the Blackbird is better as they no longer make it… No, personally speaking I loved my ST because it did what it said on the tin.. Sports Touring!!
So come on guys and girls… what’s your favourite and why?

This bike has raised a few eyebrows in the shop, and more than a few front wheels outside. More recently it has raised a couple of questions which I am going to try and answer here.

This power horse started life as a bog standard 1997 VTR1000 Honda V-Twin Firestorm, which is a mean enough beast to begin with believe me. In fact my main ride is a ’98 model and she eats motorway miles like you wouldn’t believe with sufficient braking to satisfy our countries yellow gatso’s… Cornering’s rather better than you might expect as well, though you do have to use a fair bit of effort to settle her into a bend after hard braking, which is why, I guess, this particular bike ended up at tuning specialists Revolution UK for a suspension tune and upgrade in September 2000.

Revolution fitted new fork internals and a Penske rear shock. Handling sorted.

But that wasn’t enough. Honda’s standard socket-busting accelaration wasn’t enough. The owner wanted more. So in 2001 and after about 25 000 standard miles she returned to Revolution UK for a Stage 1 engine tune : with gas-flowed heads, Moriwaki ST1 Cams, K & N filters and a complete Moriwaki exhaust system fitted she now blasts out more than 115bhp@8500rpm…

This is not a bike for the faint hearted. If, on the other hand, you enjoy pulling off with a smoking rear tyre squirming underneath you as you stare at the sky, front wheel grabbing at the air in an effort to touch the Almighty, then it *is* for you.

2008 was Harley Davidson’s 105th anniversary. I’m not entirely sure when 105 years became a recognised milestone but the ever saturnalian Harley Davidson went the whole HOG and celebrated it with style. They organised a massive ride-out starting from 105 separate Harley dealerships across the states, all destined to culminate in Milwaukee for their anniversary celebration. Four whole days of non-stop events and music. And that wasn’t all. In 2008 they opened a museum dedicated to the history of the company and they also released a unique limited edition style pack for 14 models of their range.

105th Anniversary Engine Detail

This 105th Anniversary style pack consisted of a striking copper and black colour scheme including copper plate detailing on parts of the engine, petrol tank etc, plus vinyl and stitching details to the upholstery. Then, if that wasn’t enough, the good ‘ol boys across the pond added something new. This was the year Harley Davidson introduced its customers to advanced ABS… on Brembo disk brakes!

There was a problem though. Harley Davidson are well aware that their bikes are sold almost entirely on image. Everyone recognises the iconic exhaust note and the huge air-cooled V-Twin sillhouette so simply bolting a modern ABS mechanism onto the front of some of their flagship models was never really an option. So what did they do? They designed a brand new system from the ground up and then they hid it in the wheels! They then offered this as an option across the Anniversary range and as standard on the top of the range models including the COV Ultra Classic Electra Glide.

The 2007/8 Ultra Classic Electra Glide is an awesome machine. Granted it’s not to everybody’s taste and it’s never going to win in a race through town but it’s got more style than the Monaco Grand Prix and a power plant to match. At 1803cc, the V-Twin 110 is considerably larger than the standard UC Electra Glides ‘paltry’ 1583cc and pulls the half-tonne bike around without effort. Which is a bonus, because pushing it yourself would prove to be a bit of a pain I’m sure.

What’s also worth a mention is I think Harley Davidson must contribute to at least 50% of the Global shares in rubber. You have never seen so many rubber mounts in your life but it does mean the engine can shake characteristically away in the frame without transferring any adverse vibrations to the drivers seat. Or indeed the pillions arm chair. This means long, even Epic, journeys are a joy not an issue.

Combine this comfort with a plethora of functions and features like Sat Nav, heated leather seats, gargantuan fitted luggage space plus a factory fitted stereo and you have a bike that competes head to head with another motorcycle icon, the Honda Goldwing. Then tramples it into the ground. If you truly want a super-tourer this *has* to be the bike of choice. It has all the functionallity of its competitors but a truck load more style and street cred. After all it’s a Harley Davidson through and through but with brakes that work! Brilliant!

HD's 105th Anniversary Style Pack

Oh and one final thing. Production of these machines began in 2007 and most of the 7000 produced were sold before the Anniversary year even started. So if you fancy one, keep your eyes peeled and good luck. They’re pretty rare, so you’ll need it

If you’ve never met a Honda Rune before you’re in for a shock when you do. This is a bike that doesn’t ask for your attention it positively demands it. You really have never seen anything so big, so wide, so shiny. It’s insane. It’s what Judge Dredds Lawmaster would look like in the flesh, minus the gun and the thrusters.

The amazing things about this bike is that it handles. Honda stuck all the heavy bits, like the battery, the engine and the coolant reservoir nice and low in the frame so the centre of gravity is also fairly low. This makes the bike beautifully balanced whilst your riding. And with a flat 6, 1800cc engine it doesn’t hang about either.

I’m not going to try and convince you that this is a match for a GSXR on the bends mind you, it is after all a Cruiser. But what a cruiser it is. The engine’s smooth as Galaxy chocolate, it’s comfortable all day long and the brakes work, unlike most Harley’s.

So why haven’t you seen one before? Because Honda in their infinite wisdom designed and built them for the American market and never imported them to Europe so the only models we have access to are the bikes that were imported individually by people who *really* wanted them. So they don’t appear for sale very often. Go look on ebay, there’s *one* other at the time of writing and the asking price is £2k more!

If it hasn’t been sold by the time you’re reading this I advise you to get down the shop and take a look. Just for the sake of it. This is one incredible machine. You won’t be disappointed.

Over the next few weeks (even months) we’ll be adding as many pointers, snippets of advice, items of news and pretty much anything we can think of but all with one common theme: motorbikes. A site for bikers, by bikers.

We’re also here to answer just about any question you care to ask. As long as it’s about motorbikes of course! With several combined decades of experience as professional mechanic, instructor and motorcycle courier there really aren’t many questions we don’t already know the answer to but if you find one you can be sure we’ll find the answer soon enough!

So feel free to join up, ask questions or just post a comment. We’re here to help!
